Security Council adopts the resolution renewing UNFICYP’s mandate [el] [fr]

The UN Security Council adopted Wednesday 29 July the resolution 2234 (2015), extending the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus for six months, until 31 January 2016, and welcoming resumed negotiations between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders to reach a comprehensive settlement.
France, as all European members of the Security Council and other members, co-sponsored this text, which comes about a crucial period of the inter-communal negotiations which were intensified in the recent period.
