A press briefing was held on November, 24th at the EU House in advance of the opening of the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21/CMP11) which opened the 30 November in Paris.
The Ambassador of France in Cyprus, Mr Jean-Luc Florent, presented the stakes and challenges of the COP 21. The Head of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, Mr George Markopouliotis, made a presentation on EU positions as agreed by the Council Conclusions of 19 September 2015.
The Minister of Agriculture and Environment of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nicos Kouyialis, who is leading the Cypriot delegation during climate negotiations, elaborated on the way Cyprus approaches the COP 21. He notably announced that the Republic of Cyprus will contribute up to 350,000€ to the Green Fund, a trust-fund set up to finance adaptation and attenuation measures in developing countries.
