The Ambassador welcomed the promotion of the French language in Cyprus
On the 23rd of February 2017, the French Ambassador in Cyprus, Mr. René Troccaz, participated in the press conference for the launch of the month of the Francophonie in Cyprus, chaired by the Cypriot Minister of Culture and Education, Mr Costa Kadis, in the presence of the Ambassadors of the member-countries of the International Organization of the Francophonie.
The Francophonie is celebrated every year in Cyprus and around the world during the month of March. Numerous cultural, artistic and educational events will take place this year, organized with the French Institute of Cyprus, the Cyprus Ministry of Culture and the Embassies involved.
During his speech, the Ambassador praised the influence of the French language in Cyprus, which raises a continued interest by Cypriots. He highlighted that the French Institute of Cyprus organized or was directly associated to a large part of the 20 events proposed for this month of the Francophonie, notably through:
Two interactive evenings on March 3rd and March 31st; the first concerning perfumes, in association with the International Perfume Museum in Grasse and L’Occitane en Provence, and the other on Recycling, with young students from The French-Cypriot School of Nicosia, a painter and a poet
Two concerts: classical music on March 17 and French songs on April 7
Two conferences regarding the links between the Hellenic world and the Francophone world, on March 9 and March 23
The Francophone school competition, in which many Cypriot schools participate
And of course the 12th Francophone Film Festival.
