Lecture: "The potential of solar-powered air-conditioning in Cyprus: pilot project of the Cyprus Institute" by Dr. Alaric Montenon from the Cyprus Institute
Thursday March 24 at 7pm. Venue: Institut français de Chypre.
The presentation will be held in French
Cyprus is a very sunny island where the winters are mild and the summers are very hot. The need for air-conditioning is important and responsible for significant power consumption at national level.
Due to the fact that there are currently no natural resources, Cyprus imports petrol in order to produce this kind of energy. The Cyprus Institute, private research center, has accepted the challenge to use directly the local solar resources in order to produce conditioned air.
Through the European program STS-MED, the Institute is currently installing the very first Fresnel collector in Cyprus which uses the luminous rays of the sun in order to produce cooling, thanks to an absorption heat pump. The presentation will include the solar power potential in Cyprus and the pilot air-conditioning project of the Cyprus Institute.
