Joint Search and Rescue (SAR) Exercise SAREX “CYPFRA - 01/15”
A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) Daylight Exercise, titled “CYPFRA-01/15” was conducted on Thursday, the morning of the 29th of January 2015, to the south coast of Cyprus, with the participation of SAR Units and Personnel from the Republic of Cyprus and French Navy. Also JRCC requested from the merchant vessel «MICOPERI PRIDE», which was sailing in the vicinity for cooperation, in order to evaluate the emergency plans for confronting any possible naval incidents.
The French ship and the Helicopter of the Republic of Cyprus took part in the Aeronautical SAR Exercise under the operational control and full coordination of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) Larnaca.
The scenario dealt with a simulated “Maritime Accident” in which the Cyprus National SAR Plan “NEARCHOS”, was immediately implemented by the JRCC Larnaca in order to confront the situation, executing air medical evacuation operations from the French Corvette and the merchant vessel.
