The France – Cyprus friendship group of the House of Representatives visited France from 12 to 15 October 2015. The delegation was led by Mr. Averof Neofytou, Chairman of the Foreign and European Affairs Commission, and composed of Mrs Athina Kyriakidou and Mr. Georgios Georgiou, members of the Parliament.
During this visit, the delegation went to Le Havre, the constituency of the Senator Mr. Didier Marie, Chairman of the France – Cyprus friendship group of the French Senate, where meetings were organized with members of the local business community. In Paris, in addition to the meetings held with the France – Cyprus friendship group of the Senate, the delegation had the opportunity to meet the Deputy Mr. Alain Bocquet, Chairman of the France – Cyprus friendship group of the French National Assembly, the Senator Mr. Jean Bizet, Chairman of the European Affairs Commission of the Senate, and the Senator Mr Daniel Reiner, Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Senate. The Cypriot representatives also met with Mr. Didier Billion, Deputy Director of the International and Strategic Relations Institute.
The Cypriot delegation were received on October 14th by the Minister of State in charge of European Affairs, Mr. Harlem Désir. Intercommunal negotiations for the reunification of Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean political and security situation were discussed. The Minister of State reaffirmed the strong support of France to the continuation of the negotiation process and its attachment to the European dimension of the settlement process.
