The French Minister for Armed forces meets today her Cypriot counterpart in Larnaca, on the occasion of her visit to the French Navy frigate Languedoc, which is currently operating in the Eastern Mediterranean.
This visit, and the stop-over in Cyprus, is the first visit of the Minister to armed forces deployed overseas, in an area of particular importance for the fight against terrorism, still going on in the context of the international coalition acting in Syria and Iraq. The Minister will then continue her trip to Jordan.
The meeting with the Cypriot Minister of Defense is taking place at the Zenon crisis management center, which was inaugurated in 2017 by the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
It gives the opportunity to discuss bilateral relations between France and Cyprus in the field of defense. Both countries reaffirm their intention to further deepen their cooperation, in line with the intergovernmental defense agreement signed in April 2017.
The discussion is also centered on the strengthening of European defense, the fight against terrorism on the Iraq-Syria battlefield and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
